Cailee’s Birth Story

"After 40 hours of labour and discovering I was only 3cm dilated I remembered to actually tone with the crystal singing bowl that my Mum was playing in the hospital room. So I turned my 'yelling' into deep, open toning sounds. I felt a bit embarrassed because I thought I sounded like a cow and I was getting strange looks from one of the midwives in the room ... but once I realised it was masking the pain for me I felt empowered to use my voice no matter what the others in the room thought about it.

After toning for a while I was offered gas but it didn't compare to toning at all so I threw it back at the midwife and continued in my rhythm of toning with the sound of the crystal singing bowl.

After 30 minutes of toning I felt I needed to push and was told not to because I was only 3 cm. After insisting again the midwife finally agreed to check me and much to her shock I was 10cm and yelled out "OK push!"

I strongly believe that I opened up so quickly due to the toning. I'm extremely grateful that I was able to birth my baby naturally when everything was heading towards me having a c-section."
