About Me
I am passionate about working with people in a therapeutic way, using music. I have done so since I was 15. Through lived and shared experience, I have found many inspirational ways to use music and sound with people of all ages and abilities.
Trained on the double bass and piano, I have a classical music background, Bachelor of (Mus), which I attained in 1996. Since then, I have been working extensively with people in a holistic and therapeutic way.
SoundBirth was born in 2011, as a vehicle to share, encourage, teach and integrate sound therapy tools to people, to help them relax, energise and connect with themselves and the world around them.
I believe in connected education, having home-schooled my four daughters, across the age spectrum.
I am used to working with both children and adults in a student centred way, and especially enjoy the mutual journey of discovery and learning what works and inspires us when it comes to music and sound.
I am also a Simply Music piano teacher, having taught this method since 2007. This is inclusive of "The Gateway Program," which was created in conjunction with a Music Therapist, designed for those with special needs.
I believe everyone deserves to have the opportunity to express themselves musically, to connect and be surrounded by quality musical instruments and sounds.
There is always a way to connect with someone through the use of sound, vibration and music.
What Do I Do?
I facilitate relaxation and "self" sessions for individuals and groups, using crystal singing bowls, chimes, gongs, flutes, hand pans and many other instruments.
I use a variety of uniquely targeted sound and musical instruments, that I feel the client will enjoy and benefit from. These include the voice (singing/spoken word), hand pans, chimes, drums, Tibetan singing bowls, piano, autoharp, guitar and more.
Working with individuals and groups, I create playlists that the participant resonates with, promoting integrated activities that facilitate the connection of our senses to the music. This is therapeutic, disarming, relaxing and lots of fun. A student centred outlook helps in fostering the connection to self.
I liaise with carers and appointed representatives, to find out as much about participant's needs, interests and their personality. This allows me to tailor a program that is both structured, yet flexible, allowing spontaneity within the session.
Who Do I Work With?
Anyone with special needs, who is on an NDIS plan that is managed privately or through a provider.
