SoundBirth for Expectant Couples

Find Your Birth Voice, Feel Calm in Your Body, and Connect Deeply with Your Baby

SoundBirth is a gentle, practical approach that uses sound and voice to support a calm, connected birth experience.

It offers a simple way for you and your partner to feel more grounded, more confident, and more connected as you prepare for birth — and during labour itself.

What is SoundBirth?

SoundBirth is based on the natural relationship between sound, the body, and the birth process.

Through simple vocal techniques and the use of a crystal singing bowl, women are supported to use their voice during labour in a way that feels instinctive rather than forced.

The sound helps to:

  • create rhythm and focus during contractions

  • reduce feelings of tension and overwhelm

  • support the body to relax and open

Partners are also gently guided to play an active role — often using the bowl or their own voice — creating a shared experience of support and connection.

How SoundBirth Can Support You

Many women are familiar with breathing techniques for labour — but voice is often the missing piece.

SoundBirth can help you to:

  • Feel more calm and grounded during labour

  • Use your voice to move with contractions, rather than resist them

  • Reduce anxiety and stay more present in your body

  • Create a sense of safety and connection in your birth space

  • Support your partner to feel confident and involved

This approach is simple, intuitive, and can be used in home births, hospital settings, or birth centres.

The SoundBirth Story

SoundBirth began during the home birth of my third baby.

As my contractions became more intense, I could feel the urge to make sound — but I held it back. I felt self-conscious, even surrounded by people I trusted.

At some point, my mum began gently playing a crystal singing bowl in the room.

As soon as I heard the sound, something shifted.

Without thinking, I began to use my voice — and almost instantly, I felt more calm, more focused, and more able to move with each contraction.

The sound gave me something to connect to. Something to follow.

From that moment on, the bowl and my voice became a central part of my birth experience.

That simple shift is what became SoundBirth — a way of supporting women to use sound and voice in a way that feels natural, supported, and deeply connected.

SoundBirth Will Teach You and Your Partner How to:

Find Your Birth Voice

Learn how to use your voice to feel more calm, safe, and connected during labour.

Together, you’ll explore how sound can help you:

  • release tension during contractions

  • stay present in your body

  • move through each wave with more confidence

We gently work through any hesitation or self-consciousness around using your voice, so you can feel comfortable expressing sound - no matter who is in the room.

Give Your Partner a Bowl

Experience the calming and grounding vibrations of a crystal singing bowl.

Your partner (or support person) will learn how to play the SoundBirth bowl in a simple, intuitive way - supporting you to stay connected to your voice throughout labour.

The sound becomes something you share.

A steady presence.
A point of focus.
A way to stay connected to each other through each contraction.

For many partners, this is a powerful shift - from not knowing how to help… to feeling calm, confident, and actively involved in the birth experience.

Beyond Birth: Music for Bonding

SoundBirth doesn’t end with labour.

It becomes something you can carry into those first precious days… and beyond.

In this part of the session, you’ll be guided to create your own “Heart Song” - a simple, personal melody that you can begin singing to your baby during pregnancy.

This becomes a familiar sound your baby already knows…
a thread of connection between the womb and the world.

After birth, your Heart Song can be used to:

  • soothe your baby

  • create a sense of safety and familiarity

  • support emotional connection between you, your baby, and your partner

You’ll also receive gentle guidance on how to use music and sound in everyday moments - to calm, connect, and support your growing family.

A 20-Minute Sound Journey

Sink into a state of deep relaxation as you are guided through a 20-minute SoundBirth journey to close your session.

Let your body soften…
your breath slow…
and your mind gently settle.

This is your time to simply receive.

Together, you’ll experience how sound can:

  • calm the nervous system

  • bring your awareness back into your body

  • create a sense of safety and stillness

For many couples, this becomes one of the most memorable parts of the session - a moment of quiet connection before meeting your baby.

It also offers a glimpse into how sound can support you during labour… helping you return to calm, even in more intense moments.

What Couples Are Saying

FAQs

Do I need any singing or musical experience?

1

Not at all.

This isn’t about singing “well” - it’s about using your natural voice in a way that feels supportive and grounding in your body.

You’ll be gently guided, and there’s no pressure to perform in any way.

Does my partner need to attend?

2

Partners are strongly encouraged to attend.

SoundBirth is something you experience together, and your partner will learn simple, practical ways to support you during labour - helping them feel calm, confident, and involved.

What if I feel shy or self-conscious using my voice?

3

This is very common — and completely welcome.

Many women feel this way at first. We create a safe and supportive space where you can explore your voice gently and at your own pace.

Can I still use SoundBirth if I’m having a hospital birth?

4

Yes.

SoundBirth can be used in home births, birth centres, and hospitals. The tools you learn are simple, adaptable, and supportive in any environment.

When is the best time in pregnancy to attend?

5

Anytime from around 20 weeks onward is ideal.

This gives you time to practice and become familiar with the techniques before labour.

What’s the difference between a 1:1 session and a workshop?

6

1:1 sessions are personalised and tailored specifically to you and your partner.

Workshops are a beautiful, shared experience with other expectant couples, where you’ll be guided through the same core tools in a group setting.

Both offer valuable preparation - it simply depends on what feels right for you.

Will this help with pain during labour?

7

SoundBirth supports the body to relax, release tension, and stay present - which can naturally reduce the perception of pain.

Many women find that using their voice and sound gives them something to focus on and move with during contractions.

Do we get to use the bowl ourselves?

8

Yes.

In both sessions and workshops, your partner will learn how to play the bowl in a simple and intuitive way so you can experience using sound together. If your SoundBirth Practitioner won’t be attending your birth, you will have the option to hire or purchase your own bowl after the session/workshop.
